Saytr Play

Saytr Play are a fun energetic, diverse 5 piece indie pop band that are headquartered in the North of England and have lots of influences such as Catfish and the Bottlemen and Cage the Elephant and have stated a lot of their concerts are inspired by drama and performing arts not just other musical influences in particular.

In my very honest opinion- Saytr Play rank #1 as my favourite band on the planet! Just an all round perfect band, can't say much more than that.

Music and Social Media
They have all their released songs on their Spotify Page and are very keen to release more amazing hits
A lot of Saytr Play lyrics are related to topics such as Politics, Relationships and Mental Health and a lot of these topics mean a lot to the band, They donate a lot of money to MIND which is a charity that aims to help people get better mental  health and Saytr Play are doing the right thing to say it must be taken more seriously.

Saytr Play are on most social media platforms if you need updates/announcements then i recommend you go follow them.

Lineup
As of November 2019 The Lineup consists of  Fred (Vocals) Juan (Guitar) Jamie (Guitar) Dan (Bass) and Adam (Drums)

Band Name
The band name is an alternative spelling for "Satyr Play" which is an ancient Greek form of tragicomedy, similar in spirit to the bawdy satire of burlesque. They featured choruses of satyrs, were based on Greek mythology, and were rife with mock drunkenness, brazen sexuality including phallic props, pranks, sight gags, and general merriment. Fred also claims he has a love of Satyr Plays, Hence why he dedicated the band name towards this.

Saytr Play at Years End Festival 15/12/18

I first saw Saytr Plat at Years End Festival in late 2018 which was the night that changed my music taste forever,
Since January i removed at least half a portion of my Spotify songs to replace new ones for bands that are associated with SOTN who organised Years End.

Years End was where i first saw a lot of my favourite bands (BLOXX, Freeda, Cassia) as well. But the night was absolutely great with Saytr Play being there, i can guarantee, if someone walks into a Saytr Play gig not having a clue who they are they will walk out wanting to see them again and would've had bags of fun!

Despite enjoying every band i saw at Years End and every single one was brand new to me but Saytr Play was special, i hadn't a clue what any of their songs were until the day after, i couldn't stop listening, i fluently knew the all the lyrics the day after and the same when they release new songs.

After Saytr Play finished their set at Years End, The lead singer, Fred Farrell came out and did a little meet and greet with fans. That's when i first met him i came up to him and said to him that the band are ace and gave him a short interview took some pictures and he gave me an iron on patch with the "Fragile" Logo and then that's when i became a fan of Saytr Play, because of their amazing music and kindness.

But before i met Fred i noticed a guy who was in Saytr play and it was Jamie Vere, the lead guitarist and i nervously asked him for a picture, he replied "ah yeah course mate! Whats your name?" I was quite surprised as it was the first time id asked someone for a picture, now if i ever go to another live gig and ask a musician for a picture i won't hesitate to ask!

Saytr Play at Gorilla 22/02/2019
Because my family saw how much fun I had at Years End Festival watching Saytr Play, i was lucky enough to get tickets to their next show at Gorilla for Christmas.

The gig was the best Christmas present I got! it was all round fun, Support bands (The Northern Threads, The Zangwills) who were new to me were absolutely super!

Fred came on stage wearing a boiler suit, new white hair and red nails, ready for the era of Bang Average, Gorilla is also a fantastic little venue for bands such as Saytr Play performing there!

Bang Average- which had only been out over a month and was still hot out and was the final track for the Gorilla set that ended

Now the video down below (creds to Marika Indie) shows how much fun the performance was, always tonnes of fun when Fred dives out!

I was keen to get my first setlist but i wasn't at the front and missed out, i also wanted to have a chat with Fred but when Saytr Play walked off stage me and my friends were told to leave the venue due to curfew, (i hope anyway) and if i waited any longer i would've missed my train anyway.

I unfortunately do not have many pictures of this as i was too busy moshing also this was my old phone and the quality of it was bobbins and my pictures were not very clear but here are the ones that came out decent.

BUT, i was in luck, I went to go and see Larkins at the Albert Hall 10 days later and as i was coming back from the bar i noticed Fred talking to someone so i gave my family the drinks and went over to say hello.

I tapped him on the shoulder and said "Alright Fred, how ya doin?" He hugged me and said "ah hello mate! nice to see ya" then he asked who i came with, I replied with "my family, In fact, do you know what? my stepsister loves you, do you fancy coming over and saying hello?" and he replied oh yeah lets do it! And it was a nice surprise for my family as they had no idea he was going to be there. When Larkins came on, i saw Fred again at the bar and gave me a funky dance as i walked past which was super cool.

Saytr Play at Cotton Clouds Festival 16/08/2019

Now, get comfortable because this is going to be a long story, Im just gonna say before i write this that seeing Saytr Play at Cotton Clouds was so far the best life of my night ever! also it was the first time i saw my favourite band in six months so i was really really excited!

I also had my nails painted red for the song Bang Average which is my current favourite out of them all and in the video at 0:52 i was flexing my nails at Fred and you can here him say "Right there, red nails!, Jake this one's for you mate" and that message went into my heart like there was no tomorrow for my favourite band to dedicate my favourite song to me, just give this band an award already they really do deserve it!

I arrived at the tent and they were setting up, then Fred was off stage talking to a fan then he saw me and came up to me and did the same as i did the last time i saw him Hug, Photo, Chat. But my dream was to meet the band and Fred granted my wish in the photo at the top!

The Cotton Clouds set was absolutely amazing and not many people in Saddleworth had heard of Saytr Play but everybody who was there loved it and the tent filled out well!

Because i was screaming so loud i lost my voice   for the entire night and even struggled eating  and talking then loads of people came up to me and my dad saying things like "looks like he had fun, you must be proud of him" that sort of thing it was a really special night.

And it was great because i met them all, before then as i said before id only met Fred and Jamie and they were all really lovely! I said to The Drummer, Thomas that i liked his hair and when it flicks around when he drums and he replied back saying "oh yeah man thats why i grow it" and since then has inspired me to grow long hair.

I am yet very looking forward to future Saytr Play concerts but I must say, Cotton Clouds definitely made my year!

On 15th November 2019 Saytr Play announced that their next single "Honest Man" will be released on 22/11/2019. Also on  that day i saw Twisted Wheel live at the Ritz and bumped into Fred and Juan at the bar which was really great because it was the first time I could meet them before i see them headlining Fairfield Social Club.
Honest Man was launched at midnight on 22/11/2019 and i downloaded it the second the clock hit midnight, With it being a Saytr Play song yet again it didn't disappoint me it really made my day to listen to Honest Man

Saytr Play at Fairfield Social Club (29/11/2019)

With an aftermath of having a full pint poured over me and feeling like a bull had charged at me, It was fair to say i had the time of my life at my fourth Saytr Play concert. It was also the first time i saw Saytr Play with their new drummer, Adam. I must say Adam did an amazing job and I hope to see him at more gigs.
Fred also told me the news that former drummer Tommy had left the band recently which was really sad news but at the end of the day all good things come to an end, And I wish Tommy the best for the future!

I first went over to say hello to Dan who was manning the merch stand. I also got the new T shirt which featured the new Saytr Play logo and there was another new released t shirt that read "Don't Swear In Front Of Mother" which is a quote from their song "Second Hand Emotion"

Support bands, Narrow Margin and Talk More were both absolutely outstanding and hoping to see them both live again in the near future!

The video shows the end of the gig when i saw a few fans going on stage singing Mothers Love alongside the band.
Earlier on at the gig, The band came off stage and formed a circle around the crowd to sing Mothers Love but in an acoustic form, then at the end it was played as normal and a few fans (including me) jumped on stage with the band, nearly knocking Juan's microphone over (sorry Juan:))

Fred did what he did a few months ago at Gorilla which was dive out to the crowd when Bang Average was playing. After it finished I congratulated Fred and gave him a big hug and had a selfie with him. It was an absolute life changer of a gig, most crazy moshpit i'd ever been in but that's what i like to call "Good Fun"

Saytr Play at NIAMOS (06/03/2020)

Round 5 and my first Saytr Play show of 2020 commenced! Now this is yet another tearful show, mainly the biggest highlight was Fred going off stage and giving me a massive hug half way through "Future." and everyone cheering. Saytr Play were performing alongside Mealtime, Jack Found and The Futureheads at a conference gig at this really cool theatre venue called NIAMOS just on the outskirts of Manchester City.

Saytr Play walked on stage with "Boyfriend" by Confidence Man playing in the background which was a really cool, funky intro. I also explicitly heard the background of why the band had written the song "Future" and it really means something and I respect the band so much for publishing it.

In this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L-9KgMeB4hA), which I really need to thank Byran Spink for uploading probably my best Saytr Play moment at 04:47.

If I could describe it as accurately as I could, NIAMOS is just like a mini Albert Hall in my opinion. The design, seating and more of an enlarged stage in comparison to Albert Hall. I would like to see it being used more often for future performances.

Screaming my lungs out until the point of not being able to speak until the following morning and violently dancing were my obvious attitudes at a Saytr Play concert, Of Course! I'm truly mad for Saytr Play.

Debut EP: In Truth I Fear For The Heart

On 21/02/2020 the seventh Saytr Play single "Future" was released and this is the first track they released that will be featured on their debut EP which will be released in April 2020 and was first available to pre order on 26/02/2020. When I saw the tracks that will be on the EP nothing but joy and goosebumps riddled my body because my all time favourite unreleased track "Everyday Since" was on it and I just couldn't hold my excitement for hours!!

True Saytr Play fans will also understand the meaning of the artwork, the second it caught my eye I immediately knew where I saw it before! Fred has a tattoo of a heart with blossom branches attached  on his chest which is an exact cut and paste of the EP cover.

On 03/04/2020 Saytr Play released VCR, a track from their upcoming EP. VCR is what I would describe as their best track ever released. I have heard it at every show I've seen them and always wondered when it would get released, briefly knowing parts of the lyrics from hearing it at concerts I can finally jam out to it at home!

Saytr Play also announced that they need fans help by asking the fans to send them a video of them dancing, singing to VCR on their video and it will be featured  on the official video (and I briefly appear in it:))

It's a great idea because it sort of gives the message that the fans are part of the band and I would like to see a lot more bands doing similar activities.

Saytr Play's debut EP dropped at midnight on 24/04 and the tracklist consists of Everyday Since, VCR, Future and an acoustic version of Future as well. The EP gets a straight 10/10 from me with it being Saytr Play obviously ;)
