Back in I think March 2019 I noticed a lot of Saytr Play fans talking about and promoting this band called The Monsoons, I tried looking for them all over Spotify and iTunes but no music was to be found.

In April I found and followed their Instagram page and asked Ethan, the frontman who his influences are, He responded back with "Who Do You Think" and sent me a photo of him and Saytr Play frontman Fred, I could definitely tell Ethan was influenced by Fred because the amount of times I got the pair mixed up is unbelievable. But as Saytr Play are my all time favourite band, I thought it would be rude not to keep up with The Monsoons.

I found videos of them on YouTube performing at Jimmy's bar in Manchester and The Salisbury Club in Bury and thought the sound summed up was just absolutely grade A! I told Ethan my favourite songs out of the ones I listened to were Broken English and Paint Me Violet, I was told that these songs are "Dead In The Water" a saying which means not listened or played anymore which I guess is an acceptable response, I fully understood because The Monsoons wanted to do something new and different so I understand why he would say that.

I then saw in September they announced a headliner with SOTN at the Castle Hotel supported by SWINE who are one of my favourite punk bands and Saults who I had never heard of around that time, I was really desperate to go, funny story is with The Monsoons they became one of my favourite artists by not listening to any of their music just because they had connections with my number one band! Cool isn't it? But through getting to see what The Monsoons get up to in the realms of concerts and connections with other fellow artists, I was introduced to other bands based around Bury and Greater Manchester such as Hurray for Tuesday, Rodents and Martin's Broken Neck.

However I could not attend The Castle headliner due to it being an 18+ :(

In the same month The Monsoon's debut single "Social Media Scum" was released on all platforms, the song lyrics from my point of view are very descriptive but a lot of the song is fairly quiet and has mainly vocals in it, The chorus is probably what I would consider my favourite part of the song which is the main part where you hear the drums and guitar the punky bit as I call it.

MONSOONS
In February 2020 after a long wait I finally saw The Monsoons live for the first time ever, Or did I?

Actually, On 15/02/2020 I saw live the debut performance from "MONSOONS" who are a new line up and genre of The Monsoons supporting Saults at The Bread Shed in Manchester, another event managed by SOTN. MONSOONS line up as of February 2020 consists of Ethan Cooney, Will McGuinness, Tom Palmer and Oscar Hellewell who I describe as a "four piece punk as hell band"

Drummer James Highland-Partington (professionally known as Jamo) and Guitarist Jack McDougall had departed from the band as of 2020.

Whilst hitting drums for The Monsoons, Jamo also strums the bass for local band "Hurray for Tuesday" and was focusing on working mainly with HFT, it was a big shame to see Jamo go, from seeing the videos and hearing other opinions, many said he is one of the most talented musicians around, and I totally agree, alongside Jack who has been described as an excellent guitarist but due to creative differences he decided to leave the band, and The Monsoons thanked Jack for his work with The Monsoons, I wish both Jack and Jamo the best for the future!

Jamo was replaced by Oscar Hellewell, who was still getting to grip with the tracks but I saw on an Instagram story Oscar played one of the meanest drum solos I'd ever heard! And being a drummer myself It has to be a really mean solo to impress me! Oscar did an awesome job at The Bread Shed despite feeling quite shy and emotional when Ethan introduced the crowd to him he really made the night feel special!

I was right at the barrier taking some pictures of MONSOONS and Ethan announced that the band are no longer Indie because two members left now they intend on dedicating the rest of their future sets on punk genres influenced by acts such as IDLES, Pist Idiots, Nirvana, Nine Inch Nails and The Chats.

I had the time of my life at the debut concert of MONSOONS Ethan said "Oh ey up we've got Jake here one of the faces" and let me scream the hell out of his mic during "Social Media Scum, He also threw his bandana at me which I have hanging on my ceiling with my other bandana
Most importantly the best bit was when Ethan was fooling about in front of my camera haha, it was genuinely one of the best concerts I had been to, a very violent mosh pit which I avoided (thank god) but summed up MONSOONS performance has got to be awarded with a 10 with just all round perfection!
